Highly Sensitive Persons and cold, wet climates

Are you a Highly Sensitive Person (HSP) living in a cold and wet climate? Living in the cold, for an HSP, means often surviving in the cold. Extreme temperatures can have a negative effect on both the mood and the mental health of HSPs. So how can you protect yourself?

Take extra care of yourself. There is no escape to the cold. Make sure to give yourself a regular treat, like a sauna or a hot bath. Also pay a lot of attention to your diet: the lack of vitamins coming from natural sunlight may need compensation.

During the day, make sure the places where you stay are well lit. And get out every day, don't stay inside.
Cold & wet: it affects HSPs... (c)

Your home should be adapted to who you are. Make sure to have double or triple-glazed windows. Keep a consistent temperature in the rooms you live in. If you can have floor heating, it's great. If it's too expensive, don't forget to wear socks.

Talking about clothes. Not only should they be comfortable, don't hesitate to bring an extra sweater. Also, to avoid getting wet, buy a water-resistant cape as well as water-resistant shoes. No one likes feeling wet. It will make the cold even worse.

To get your home less humid, make sure to buy a dehumidifier. If it makes noise, put it somewhere you can't hear it too much.

And don't forget to enjoy the sound of rain dripping on a roof - it can relax.

Questions to ask yourself:

  • Am I wearing the right clothes?
  • Am I taking enough care of myself during winter?
  • What can clothes can I buy to feel better?
  • How do I avoid temperature switches?
  • What do I enjoy doing when it's cold?
