10 places highly sensitive persons hate

Some places are just not made for highly sensitive persons (HSPs). Especially if they're packed with persons. Either it's the flashy adverts, the lack of privacy or the abundant artificial light, they drain the energy from HSPs.

1. The supermarket / mall
Do you also notice you're getting tired when you've spent too much time in the supermarket? There's more than one explanation: every product tries to get your attention. Thanks to different packages. So HSPs are overwhelmed with choices. Some packages have flashy colours, which are also not doing any good. And then there's all the other clients. Making uncontrollable noises and going in every direction. Plus the music playing loudly. Also, supermarkets tend to use a lot of artificial light.

Tip: go when there's the least persons going, shop online so you just have to pay for it at the entrance.

2. Court houses
Some persons would argue it's quite quiet. But it's not. Many persons make noises. And HSPs notice them. Plus, no one wants to be in court. Resulting in hidden feelings, and mostly negative. Add to that a judgemental atmosphere - everyone thinks they're right - and you've got a negative cocktail for highly sensitive persons.

Tip: just avoid going to court, or send someone to represent you.

Casinos are no place for HSPs (c)
3. The casino
Ever gone to the casino? With its flashy machines? Its superficial nature? How can people relax while losing their money in a game that's made to make you lose money? Indeed, not a place for HSPs. There are better ways to spend your money. And we haven't talked about the artificial light yet.

Tip: just don't go.

4. Playgrounds
Children running in every direction they can. Flashy toys. Uncontrollable sound, that is permanent in the wrong way so you'll keep on noticing the individual shouts. And the endless cries going straight through your bones. Plus, if you have to watch some of them, you'll quickly get overloaded.

Tip: go when no one is there. Or to those surrounded by parks or nature.

5. Clubs and discos
Let's 'relax' by dancing in between other sweaty persons. Or persons looking to score someone for the night, with their intense perfume, superficial conversations and unpleasant touching. With the bonus of having others watch you, especially if you're a girl. Also add the music that can be tasteless and way too loud.

Tip: check out which clubs are nice and relaxed.

6. Network events / conferences
Just like court houses, conferences are quiet - but they're not to HSPs. There's always someone calling by whispering to the caller. Coughs. People talking. Texting. And afterwards, there's the obligatory smalltalk at the reception, with many persons being overdressed.

Tip: set a goal at the event: talk to one of the speakers or talk with a friend.

7. Cinemas
The sound of other persons eating is very clear before the movie starts. But HSPs can still hear them when the film has started. Do you feel it when someone is obliged to sit next to you because there's not enough places available? Uncomfortable indeed. And the ads just before the movie starts are designed to trigger strong emotions.

Tip: go when no one goes.

8. Open office space
Can slowly turn into hell. Especially when others frequently call. But even if they don't, people make noise. Their typing. Their chatting. Their gossip. Or their chairs. This, the lack of privacy and lots of artificial light can drain HSPs very easily.

Tip: ask to have an own office, or a place close to a window with natural light.

Weddings - happy day for everyone? (c)
9. Weddings / family reunions
Hello superficial and obligatory smalltalk with everyone. HSPs are able to quickly remember their uncle has a bad body odour. Plus, almost half of the people are from another family - some of them don't want to be there. That's something HSPs feel when they try to make a decent conversation. In weddings, it's possible to feel others' desperation, jealousy and other hidden feelings.

Tip: stay on the side of the crowd.

10. Prison
Well. No privacy. Bad people doing bad things. A closed atmosphere. Prisons are absolutely the worst for HSPs.

Tip: don't do anything stupid that gets you into prison.

So do you agree? How would you cope with those places? What's your most hated place?
